Brown & Black Belt Training

A great day of training on Sunday for our QLD Chito-Ryu Karate-Do brown & black belts from Sunshine Coast Karate, Gold Coast Chito-Ryu Karate & Brisbane Chito-Ryu Karate.

The 4 hours of training went very quickly exploring the importance of structure and relaxation to generate effective & efficient technique. Sandra Phillips Renshi kicked things off with a great session helping everyone to develop awareness of their posture and body position which laid the foundations for the remainder of the session.

From there, the group was split. Kobujyutsu nidan & sandan student were lead firstly by Adam Higgins Shihan developing sakugawa no kon sho & dai. Whilst Martin Phillips Renshi led the remainder of the group exploring the body awareness ideas from the first session, but in the context of bassai. From there the teachers swapped to gain some additional perspectives. The kobujyutsu group continued developing the same content further, whilst the other group took those same ideas and applied them to bassai bunkai.

After a short break. The nidan karate students were extended more deeply into the earlier concepts with sanshiryu led by Sandra Phillips Renshi. Meanwhile, the remainder of the group had the opportunity to explore henshuho.

The key lesson from the day:

Body position, stretch, relax without losing structure, acceleration. Then start again with the next technique.

After training a number of students stayed back for practice dan & instructor gradings, with a few people passing on to next levels. More about that in the next post.
